Grimsby boss Neil Woods
Alan Connell and Michael Cummins were on target as Grimsby recorded a creditable 2-0 win over Luton at Blundell Park on Saturday afternoon.
The scorers were first put to work on 30 minutes after Shane Blackett handballed in the box. Referee Jeremy Simpson pointed to the spot, with ex-Bournemouth hitman Connell converting to nudge the Mariners 1-0 ahead at the break.
The visiting Hatters were extremely unlucky after the restart, when Matthew Barnes-Homer's effort struck the upright.
Their woes were compounded when Cummins headed home a cross by Lewis Gobern with 20 minutes to go.
Richard Money's high-flying charges could ultimately find no way back. The result sees them slip to sixth on the Blue Square Bet Premier table, two points behind fourth-placed Grimsby.
Grimsby bookings: Hudson, Connell.
Luton bookings: Blackett, Kroca.
Ref: Jeremy Simpson (Lancashire).
