Deano happy to pick up the points

Wrexham manager Dean Saunders has praised his side for grinding out victory against Stevenage on Saturday in the Blue Square Premier.

The Dragons won the game 2-1, but were lucky to come away with the three points after Stevenage dominated much of the game.

Saunders told WalesOnline: "The effort was outstanding and that's what has won us the match in the end because we didn't play very well at all.

"We played better than that at Kidderminster last weekend and lost but I've got to give credit to the players for digging in.

"We were terrible in the first half and I had to have a pop at the players at the break. Fortunately, we hadn't done anything daft and were still in the game and we did improve in the second half.

"If I was Stevenage I would feel unlucky but that's the way it goes and I'm delighted with the win.

"All I ask for is effort and I got lots of it and long may that continue.

"We've proved we can play in the last few weeks but we've also proved here that we won't be bullied and that's a good sign."

The Wrexham boss was also full of admiration for Marc Williams, who scored the winning goal for the Dragons.

"Marc Williams was fantastic and got his head to everything at both ends of the pitch," he said.

"He epitomises everything that I'm trying to bring to the club and I was delighted for him that he got the winner.

"He wants to win games and that spreads throughout the team.

"He fought hard and I've been calling for our strikers to score goals and that's what they have done and it's a great win."
