Wrexham 1-0 AFC Wimbledon

Wrexham recorded a suprise 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon in the Blue Square Premier on Saturday via a controversial goal from Gareth Taylor.

It was the Dragons' first league game in 49 days with the result seeing them move seven points clear of the relegation zone and despite the loss, Wimbledon remain in the play-off places with 46 points.

Wrexham boss Dean Saunders had new striker Andy Mangan to call on and he was involved from the off as the home side looked lively with their early running.

The former Forest Green forward was put through on goal by Wes Baynes but an alert Brett Johnson put paid to the player advancing.

Will Hendry then hit his effort over the bar after 14 minutes with Nathan Elder coming close to converting a cross minutes later.

Wimbledon were then left ruing their luck after a goal was awarded despite Lamine Sahko appearing to nudge Seb Brown over the goalline after he had collected Gareth Taylor's looping ball.

The goal gave the home side a boost and Saunders' charges went in search of a second with Baynes coming the closet with a shot that hit the bar.

Wimbledon started the second half the brighter of the two sides however and should have scored when Dragons keeper Sam Russell hit his clearance against Elder but he recovered in time to clear the resultant shot off the line.

Ricky Wellard then came close with a free-kick that skimmed the bar before Baynes had to clear off the line from Paul Lorraine's powerful header.

And with the game winding down Brown stopped Taylor from gabbing a second with a fantastic one-handed save.

Wrexham bookings: Mangan.

AFC Wimbledon bookings: Booked: Conroy, Adjei.
