Eastbourne 4-3 Wrexham

Eastbourne Borough shot up the league standings after coming out on top against Wrexham in a seven-goal thriller at Priory Lane on Saturday afternoon.

This was Wrexham's second consecutive Blue Square Bet Premier defeat, while the result sees Eastbourne shoot up to third place in the league standings.

The Sports drew first blood in the 10th minute when Richard Pacquette rose well to head home Matt Crabb's free-kick from close range.

Wrexham didn't take long to respond as Christian Smith leveled the scores with headed effort from a Dean Keates free-kick five minutes later.

And the Dragons claimed the lead in the 19th minute when Marvin Andrews headed home a Keates corner to mark his debut with a goal.

Eastbourne made it 2-2 just before the half-time break as Gary Elphick hit the target with a headed goal from outside the penalty box.

The home side were controversially awarded a penalty in the 52nd minute when Christian Smith was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area.

Simon Weatherstone calmly converted the resulting spot kick but it wasn't long before Wrexham were back on level terms.

Smith made amends for his earlier indiscretion by making it 3-3 with a goal struck from inside the penalty box in the 76th minute but it was Eastbourne who had the last say.

Chris Blackburn was adjudged to have handled Matt Crabb's high ball into the area and Weatherstone stepped up to convert from the penalty spot for a second time to make it 4-3.

Eastbourne bookings: Pacquette.

Wrexham bookings: Ashton, Harris, Morrell.

Referee: Rob Whitton (Essex).

Att: 1,055.
