Hayes & Yeading 1-1 Mansfield

Mansfield dropped points in their quest for a play-off place as they drew 1-1 with Hayes & Yeading on Saturday afternoon.

Dale Binns put the home side into a deserved first-half lead with Gary Silk coming to his side's rescue with seconds left to play to steal a point.

The Stags can count themselves lucky though as play-off rivals Luton, Rushden, Kettering and York City all dropped points.

Kyle Perry had the visitors' best early chance as he found himself one-on-one with Clark Masters. But the goalkeeper was alert to the danger as he snatched the ball away from the feet of the onrushing striker.

Esmond James made his presence felt for Hayes with his goal-bound shot only deflected over by Kyle Nix while defender Matt Ruby came close to breaking the deadlock from the resulting corner as he shot through a crowd of players.

Ram Marwa thought he had scored on 36 minutes but his shot was blocked on the line after finding its ways through the Stags defence. But the goal the home side were looking for duly arrived less than 10 minutes later as Steve Basham dispossessed Gary Silk before setting up Binns, who stroked home into the bottom left corner of the net.

It took Mansfield 62 minutes to register their first attempt on goal as Andy Nicholas fired over the bar. Ryan Williams failed to match that feat as he hit his free-kick straight into the wall from a dangerous position.

Jon Challinor was denied by substitute keeper Simon Overland, who had come on after 20 minutes with Masters injured in a collision with Kyle Perry.

With the match ticking down, the away side became increasingly desperate and upped the tempo in search of an equaliser. Two shouts for penalties were dismissed but the stroke of luck they were looking for came their way with seconds left to play as Silk poked the ball home from close range after Overland had failed to deal with a poor defensive header from Jon Shaw.
