Walker: Summer signings sorted

York City manager Colin Walker has hailed the financial support he received from the club's board this summer which has helped him complete his signings ahead of schedule.

Walker has been busy in the transfer market for the past few months which has managed to bring in three midfielders, a utility man, a goalkeeper as well as a striker.

The York boss now feels that he has the basis of a good squad capable of challenging for honours this season and does not envisage any new arrivals at KitKat Crescent in the near future.

"I've been very lucky with the board - there was a big chance that we may not have got (Daniel) McBreen but the board came to the party and I'm really pleased," Walker told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"I've got to really thank the board for helping me."

Walker was particularly pleased with the capture of the Australian striker and added: "He's got that Australian mentality, which is a winning mentality, and a work ethos which is very, very good.

"I'm sure he'll bring that to the rest of the squad."

Meanwhile, Minstermen supporters will be hoping that promising striker Onome Sodje does not join the list of departures at York.

The explosive marksman has been linked with a move to FA Cup semi-finalists Barnsley but York chiefs are adamant that they have not received an offer for the former Charlton trainee.

York City's communications and community director Sophie McGill said: "I can confirm we have not been approached by Barnsley in recent weeks regarding Onome Sodje or any of the York City players."
