Armstrong makes debut for Rovers

Forest Green Rovers 2-1 York City

York City dropped into fourth place after crashing 2-1 at The New Lawn against relegation-threatened Forest Green Rovers.

Despite their struggles and lowly position on the table, Rovers have managed three wins and a draw from their last five games at New Lawn. And they made their home advantage count once again against a York side facing an increasingly more difficult fight for a play-off place.

Danny Powell gave the home side the lead after 22-minutes. His miss-hit cross found it's way over York keeper Michael Ingham and into the back on the net.

The Minstermen managed to restore parity 12-minutes later through Levi Mackin. Fortune favoured the York frontman as his shot hit Forest Green defender David Brown and deflected past a stranded home keeper Danny Irish.

Then ten minutes into the second period the decisive goal came. Rovers were awarded a contentious free kick as David Brown was fouled. The defender dusted himself off and delivered a fine free kick which Oliver Thorne headed home to secure the win for the home side.

Thorne had earlier come on as a second half substitute for experience defender Craig Armstrong who made his debut for Rovers.

Forest Green bookings: Armstrong, Smith, Preece, Ameobi, Platt.

York bookings: Mackin, McGurk, Meredith.

Att: 892.

Ref: Chris Powell (Dorset).
