Richard Brodie

York 0-0 Barrow

The pressure mounted on York City as a resilient Barrow held them to a draw at Bootham Crescent on Tuesday to extend the Minstermen's winless streak to four.

Martin Foyle's team lost on the opening day of the season and have since notched up three successive draws, a run of form that sees the club languishing in 22nd position in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

The home team started the match in languorous fashion but came to life in the 10th minute when Bluebirds goalkeeper Alan Martin, who is on-loan from Leeds United, made a nifty save to deny Djoumin Sangare's header.

Martin showed great dexterity moments later when he blocked Richard Brodie's lobbed attempt. The rebound then fell to Jonathan Smith but his shot flashed over the crossbar.

The visitors managed to navigate this onslaught and as the clock ticked towards the break, they managed to gain a foothold in the match, although Mark Boyd's long-range shot did not test Michael Ingham in the York goal.

In the second period Boyd did force Ingham into action, with the York number one doing well to stop the midfielder's effort.

Later in the half, Brodie's shot from distance was parried by the in-form Martin and two minutes before full-time, Michael Gash spurned a chance to win it when he headed wide of the mark following a fine delivery from Michael Rankine.
