Tamworth 1-1 Luton

Luton suffered a blow to their automatic promotion hopes when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Tamworth at the Lamb Ground.

The result ended the Hatters nine-game winning run and sees them slip to four points behind Blue Square Premier Stevenage.

George Pilkington's first-half opener for the visitors was cancelled out by Des Lyttle's second-half strike as honours ended even.

Gary Mill's charges started the game strongly and they almost went ahead as early as the 10th-minute when Michael Blackwood headed goalward from a Richard Tait cross, but his effort failed to trouble Hatters stopper Mark Tyler.

However, Tyler was called into action just a couple of minutes later when he made an excellent save from Iyseden Christie to keep the game goalless.

But it wasn't long after that the Hatters took the lead against the run of play as Pilkington latched onto Keith Keane's corner and nodded the ball home.

Liam Hatch came close to doubling his side's shortly before the interval when he failed to hit the target with a header after finding himself unmarked in the area.

Danny Alcock kept his side in the game with an excellent save just after the break from a well-struck Simon Heslop shot.

However, it was the Lambs who found themselves back on level terms when the Luton defence failed to clear a ball into the area and Lyttle blasted home on the hour-mark from 10 yards out to earn his side a point.

Tamworth Bookings: Pritchard.

Luton Bookings: Hatch.
