Crawley 2-0 Tamworth

Crawley Town halted a run of two straight defeats with a 2-0 victory over strugglers Tamworth at Broadfield stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Lambs registered the first shot on goal in the fifth minute but Bradley Pritchard saw his shot from deep inside the area go over the crossbar.

Crawley's Thomas Pinault also had a chance to open the scoring in the 10th minute but he fired wide of the left-hand post with an effort from outside the box.

Despite both sides creating a fair number of chances to break the deadlock, the first half ended in stalemate.

However, the match came to life in the 57th minute when the referee adjudged Jake Sheridan to have fouled Charles Ademeno in the penalty area.

Danny Forrest stepped up to take the resulting spot kick and made no mistake to make it 1-0 to the Red Devils.

And Forrest turned provider in the 64th minute when he found Ben Smith, who fired into the bottom-right corner from just outside the box.

Charlie Ademeno missed two chances to extend Crawley's advantage later on but it didn't matter as the hosts held firm to collect a comfortable win in front of the home support.

The result leaves Tamworth hovering dangerously close to the dreaded drop zone with a total of 46 points from 42 games.

Crawley bookings: None.

Tamworth bookings: Shaw, Wylde, Pritchard, Chris Smith.

Ref: Marvin Thompson (Middlesex).

Att: 755.
