AFC Wimbledon 0-1 Tamworth

Tamworth ended the lingering threat of relegation with a 1-0 victory over Terry Brown's AFC Wimbledon at Kingsmeadow on Tuesday evening.

The Dons were unable to capitalise on their home advantage and a lack of cutting edge ultimately cost them as Michael Wylde's 26th minute finish helped the Lambs claim all three points.

The hosts started brightly and had a number of chances to claim the lead but efforts from Danny Kedwell and Elliott Godfrey failed to find the desired target.

The Lambs also had chances of their own but Aaron Mitchell missed the target with a second -inute header and Nick Wright failed to hit the mark in the 7th minute with an effort from inside the penalty area.

However, Tamworth finally broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when Michael Wylde latched onto a pass from Neil MacKenzie before firing into the bottom-left corner from close range.

AFC Wimbledon piled forward in search of an equaliser and had a glorious opportunity just before the half-time break but on-loan striker Nathan Elder fired well wide of the left-hand post from just outside the box.

Tamworth came close to doubling their tally in the 65th minute but Neil MacKenzie fired just wide of the target with a free kick from the edge of the area.

In the end, the Dons were unable to break down an obstinate Tamworth defence and Garry Mills' side left Kingsmeadow with a much-needed three points in the bag.
