Mark Beesley

City and United share the spoils

Cambridge City put up a fight to draw 1-1 in the centenary clash against their Blue Square Premier neighbours Cambridge United.

City were relegated from the Blue Square South last season, but managed to put up a gritty performance to deny U's manager Gary Brabin his first derby win.

Michael Gash handed the hosts an early lead after 18 minutes, but Mark Beesley levelled for United after the half-hour mark.

And despite the game being a pre-season friendly, the U's threw everything at City, but could not find the winner.
