Chris Holroyd
Wimbledon continued their fine start to the season with a hard-fought and well-deserved point against much-fancied Cambridge United.
With 20 minutes played, an error by the Dons keeper should have given Cambridge the lead. Seb Brown misjudged a huge clearance, letting the ball bounce over his head, but a poor touch by Chris Holroyd meant he squandered what should have been an easy tap-in.
His heavy first touch allowed Paul Lorraine to scamper back and block the shot, with the ball rebounding off Holroyd and out for a goal-kick in what proved to be a huge let-off for the home side.
The entertaining first half ended excitingly with Andy Parkinson whipping two dangerous-looking crosses into the box with none of his Cambridge teammates there to follow up.
Both sides produced their fair share of chances in the second half but a combination of good keeping and dubious striking conspired to consign them to a goalless draw.
