York City 2-2 Cambridge United

York City and Cambridge United shared the spoils when they played out a 2-2 draw at KitKat Crescent on Tuesday evening.

Both sides got off to solid starts in what was a tentative encounter during the opening exchanges.

Michael Gash was the man to finally break the deadlock when he came up with the opening goal of the game. After the ball landed at the feet of Smith on the edge of the area he crossed inside for Gash to slot the ball home past the helpless Danny Potter.

The Minstermen went into the break well on top and with a deserved 1-0 lead.

The second half started as the first had left off with City raking up a number of chances but failing to capitalise on any.

This seemed to spark the U's into life as Martin Ling's men started to enjoy some possession and create chances of their own.

Insistent pressure on York's goal finally paid dividends in the 78th minute when Jai Reason found space on the edge of the area and fired into the bottom left-hand corner of the York goal.

The home crowd were taken aback when their side surrendered their strangle hold on the game further in the 83rd minute as Mark Beesley made it two for the visitors by driving the ball home.

The up and down game had one last curve ball in store for the fans as Gash fired home his second for the evening and managed to save his side's blushes by grabbing a well-deserved point for the Minstermen.
