Broadhall Way

Stevenage v Cambridge Utd

Stevenage Borough will be looking to keep pace with league leaders Oxford when Martin Ling's Cambridge United visit Broadhall Way on Friday afternoon.

Graham Westley's side trail the league leaders by just two points but have played two games more than Chris Wilder's men.

Westley has a few players who are currently nursing minor injuries and says he will strengthen his squad in January if his budgets permits.

He told The Comet: "We've been talking to clubs about players - nothing has been concluded. We will see where we get to.

"The circumstances as they are with the injuries means it would be good to add a little bit to us to give us a bit of cover.

"I think if the squad was fully fit would do the job that is required but there are knocks in key areas so if we can add that little bit of strength then that would be great.

Cambridge United are sweating on the availability of Paul Carden and Brian Saah for Friday's crunch clash.

Carden is struggling with a virus, while Saah is currently nursing muscle strain.

Cambridge boss Ling told Cambridge News: "I'm still hoping Brian will make it and if we can put him in the middle of the defence, we'd be better for it.

"He took a knock on his backside muscle and it's very swollen in that area and very painful for him because you don't realise how much you use that muscle.

"If Brian and Gleese can't play, we haven't got a right-back because Josh Coulson and Rory McAuley would be in the centre and Tonks (Anthony Tonkin) at left-back.

"Darryl Coakley is an out-and-out left-back and the last time someone else filled in at right-back it was Cardy.

"You could play with three at the back and have Robbie Willmott and Courtney Pitt as wing-backs and it could work, but we'd have to work on it in training."
