Cambridge sign full-back Palmer

Cambridge United manager Martin Ling has strengthened his defensive options with the signing of full-back Aiden Palmer on a free transfer.

The 23-year-old has joined the U's on a deal that runs until the end of the season and has been playing for Blue Square South side Bishop's Stortford most recently.

The former Leyton Orient player told the club's official website: "I am looking forward to making a fresh start at Cambridge United.

"I am very grateful to Martin for giving me this chance to get back into professional football and am looking to grab the opportunity with both hands."

U's boss Martin Ling added, "I have known Aiden since he was 14 years old, he's a good lad and I know will do a job for us.

"Obviously he's had his problems recently and now realises this is an opportunity he needs to take.

"He is an attacking left back who came through the ranks whilst I was at Leyton Orient, playing in the same youth team as Brian Saah.

"I feel he can do a job at Cambridge United and be a good replacement for Tonkin. He's signed a contract until the end of the season and, like everyone else, he has the chance to impress me for the remainder of the season to be part of my plans for the future."
