Cambridge Utd v Southport

Martin Ling's Cambridge United will be aiming to record their first win of the new campaign when newcomers Southport visit the Abbey Stadium on Saturday.

The U's have picked up just one point from their first two encounters, while the Sandgrounders have collected three points from their opening two fixtures.

Ling will keep faith player-goalkeeping coach Simon Brown between the posts despite their last two results.

Dave Partridge is available for selection after recovering from concussion suffered in last Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Wrexham.

Looking ahead to the clash, Ling told Cambridge News: "It's always important to do things like getting your first win, first goal for your strikers, first clean sheet for the defenders.

"We've had their first two games watched and, to be fair, I don't know any of their players, but Paul Carden knows more about them.

"We expect them to be quite direct, so it's just a case of matching what they do and impose our game on them."

Southport boss Liam Watson could be tempted to name an unchanged starting line-up after they recorded a memorable victory over Kidderminster Harriers in midweek.

Captain Adam Flynn has returned from Liverpool FC coaching duty in Kenya but he will have to be content with a place on the bench.

Watson told the Southport Visister: "I've been debating about changing the formation from Tuesday night but you should not really change a winning team.

"We've got Flynny back and he will be involved at some stage but I have to take into consideration that travelling back from Kenya on the day before the game is not ideal preparation.

"I feel what we have in midfield is better than what Cambridge can offer so trying to get Blakey on the from the start is something I'm thinking about.

"Cambridge's main threat comes in the form of their pace on the wings with Simon Russel and Conal Platt and they've got Robbie Willmott up front who is quick as well.

"But I honestly feel Cambridge are vulnerable at the back, though it still promises to be a really difficult game."
