Blues wait on summer cash boost

Blue Square Premier Grays Athletic could be set for a massive financial windfall this transfer window with two of their former players linked with summer moves.

Former Grays players Aaron McLean and Michael Kightly have both had impressive campaigns in the Football League and have reportedly been tracked by a number of interested clubs.

Peterborough striker McLean ended the season as the League Two top scorer and manager Barry Fry has placed a £2m asking price on the 25-year-old.

Wolves winger Michael Kightly has made an almost meteoric rise up the football ladder in the past two seasons and has apparently drawn the interest of Manchester United, Everton, West Ham and Blackburn.

"Hopefully you'll be phoning me soon to talk about our chances next season and I'll have a nice big cheque in my back pocket!" Grays owner/manager Mick Woodward told The NLP.

"I've spoken to Barry Fry and whoever wants Aaron has got to put in a minimum bid of £2m. He's scored 33 goals this year and he will easily adapt to the higher level.

"With talk of this new FIFA ruling coming in allowing five foreign players, clubs at the top are going to be looking for homegrown talent.

"I think you'll also see Michael Kightly move very shortly too. I know Everton, West Ham and Blackburn have come in for him and a club has put a £4m bid in already.

"We can't wait for these boys to move on because we've got 20 per cent sell-on clauses, but you probably won't see anything happen just yet.

"People will see who they can get rid of first. West Ham are going to have a good clear-out because they've got too many Big-Time Charlies and they want players who are hungry. Kightly fits that bill perfectly."

If both players in question do make summer moves, then the Blue Square Premier club would pocket a windfall of around £1.2M.
