New Recreation Ground

Grays Athletic 1 Histon 4

High-flying Histon continued their fine run of form when they thrashed lowly Grays Athletic at the New Recreation Ground in the Blue Square Premier on Sunday.

The Stutes scored four second-half goals to move to second in the table after they went into the break a goal down.

Wayne Burnett's Athletic side opened the scoring in the 36th minute after midfielder Ishmael Welsh slotted the ball into the bottom right-hand corner from inside the penalty area.

But some stern words from manager Steve Fallon must have inspired his side to a much improved performance in the second half and they finally got the break-through when defender Matthew Langston scored from a Lanre Oyebanjo corner to equalise.

It took just another two minutes for Histon to grab the lead when striker Jack Midson drove the ball home from outside the box to make it 2-1.

Another two minutes went by and the Stutes again found the back of the net after Nathaniel Knight-Percival headed home from a Lanre Oyebanjo corner.

Damien Reeves then wrapped up the game and the three points for his side when he netted with a minute to play to make it 4-1.

The result will come as another big blow for Athletic as they remain firmly fixed in the relegation zone, third from bottom.
