Grays Athletic 3-1 Ebbsfleet United

Grays Athletic did their hopes of avoiding relegation no harm with an emphatic 3-1 victory over Ebbsfleet United on New Years Day.

The home side took control of the match from the start and thoroughly deserved to take the lead in the 31st minute.

Stuart Thurgood picked up a poor defensive clearance from United's Dean Pooley before slotting home in fine style to hand his side the lead.

Grays made it 2-0 shortly after half time thanks to some inspired play from Barry Cogan.

Cogan created space for himself before supplying Ishmael Welsh with a simple finish to double the home side's lead.

Ebbsfleet managed to pull a goal back in the 73rd minute through Kezie Ibe to hand their travelling fans some hope, but Jamie Stuart drowned those hopes when he found the back of the net just three minutes later, making sure that the points were staying at the New Recreation Ground.
