Torquay United 1-1 Grays

Torquay United were forced to settle for a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw against relegation-battling Grays Athletic at Plainmoor on Tuesday night.

The result eased the visitors' drop-zone fears, but at the same time condemned Lewes to go straight back down to the Blue Square South.

Jamie Taylor headed the Blues in front before Roscoe DSane's superb long-range effort levelled the scores.

But there were plenty of wasted chances in the opening exchanges as Tony Dinning couldn't convert his far-post header for Grays and Taylor struck a volley wide from ten yards out in the 24th minute - an opportunity he should have buried.

However, the forward made no mistake on the 39-minute mark after rising the highest to head home Tommy Black's free kick following a Lee Hodges foul.

Gulls had no answer for the effort in the first half, with their only real threat at Rob Beckwith's goal coming from a Elliot Benyon shot, which the keeper gathered with great ease.

At the start of the second spell though Wayne Carlisle and Roscoe DSane switched wings with great effect. The latter received a ball on the left wing in the 48th minute before cutting inside and firing an unstoppable 25-yard effort past Beckwith.

Carlisle and Chris Todd came close to winning the game for the hosts in the dying minutes of the game, but it wasn't to be and United remain in third spot.
