Burton Albion 4-0 Grays Athletic

Blue Square Premier leaders Burton Albion cemented their place at the top of the standings with a convincing 4-0 victory over Grays Athletic.

An impressive first-half display by the Brewers saw them go into the break having wrapped up the three points after they netted three times in the opening 22 minutes.

Roy McFarland's men opened the scoring as early as the 2nd minute when Darren Stride flicked on the ball forward for Lee Morris, who stroked the ball home.

John McGrath doubled the home sides lead in the 16th minute with a superb free-kick after Keith Gilroy was brought down 25 yards out.

Morris then netted his second of the game and his side's third on 22 minutes when he brilliantly rounded off a move that he had started after Michael Simpson picked him out inside the area.

The Brewers seemed to go to sleep after this as the Gravelmen tried to claw their way back into the game, but some poor finishing saw the visitors failing to cause Burton keeper Kevin Poole anything to worry about.

The Pirelli Stadium side then rubbed salt into the wounds of Gary Phillips' men with a fourth goal in the 84th minute when Grays keeper Rob Beckwith dropped the ball in his net from a Gilroy cross.

McFarland's troops are now 11 points clear of second-placed Cambridge United.

Burton Albion bookings: Simpson, Butler.

Grays Athletic bookings: Wilnis.
