Altrincham 2-0 Grays Athletic

Altrincham secured their Blue Square Premier status with a comfortable victory over strugglers Grays Athletic at Moss Lane on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues will be bitterly disappointed with the result as they created a whole host of goalscoring chances throughout.

The visitors started brightly and won two corners in quick succession but the Robins managed to scramble the ball clear from both chances.

They won another corner in the 19th minute which was taken by Tommy Black but George Beavan's resultant header flew wide of the right-hand post.

Grays were made to rue their lack of cutting edge up front as the home side claimed the lead just four minutes later thanks to a brilliant bit of individual skill from veteran striker Colin Little.

Little collected a Dale Johnson pass on the edge of the area and jinked past his marker and fired a low, hard shot into the bottom-left corner.

Grays were creating most of their chances from set pieces but Alty goalkeeper Stuart Coburn looked solid enough when called upon.

The hosts started strongly after the restart and almost doubled their tally in the 49th minute but Dale Johnson's well struck effort from 25 yards was saved by Lee Butcher.

Graham Heathcote's side finally put the game to bed in the 80th minute when Doughty played Chris Denham in on goal with an excellent through ball and
