Yates hails penalty hero Richards

Kidderminster Harriers coach Mark Yates has praised the determination and character shown by striker Justin Richards.

Harriers battled out a deserved 1-0 win over Rushden and Diamonds at Nene Park on Saturday with Richards slotting in from the penalty spot after he had already squandered a handful of goalscoring opportunities.

"It shows the character that Justin has. He missed a couple of chances that he would have backed himself to put away but scored the penalty," Yates told Worcester News.

"He's full of confidence and even though I didn't see the penalty I was told by Neil [Howarth] that he slotted it in well."

The win propelled Harriers into the top four, just a single point adrift of Torquay and Histon, who are joint second.

"We knew we had to put our heads in the way," Yates added.

"Garry Hill's trying to get something going and instilled discipline and a siege mentality in them.

"After ten minutes I thought we played some good football and were unlucky not to be out of sight by half-time.

"We need to be a bit more ruthless but I thought we deserved to win."

Kidderminster host a rampant Wrexham side, who are only 3-points adrift, on Saturday.
