Wrexham 0-2 Crawley

Wrexham saw their promotion aspirations take a major blow after suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of fellow play-off chasers Crawley Town on Saturday afternoon.

In fact, it was also the first defeat they have suffered at home under the stewardship of manager Dean Saunders.

And with the end of the season looming, this result may well have ended Wrexham's hopes of reaching the play-offs, while Crawley have kept their play-off campaign on track with another three-point haul.

The home side started brightly and produced a handful of good chances but it was the visiting side who drew first blood in the 11th minute.

Wrexham's Michael Proctor saw his 10th minute effort ruled offside and the visitors claimed the lead one minute later when Isiah Rankin headed home a cross from Michael Malcolm.

The hosts fell further behind in the 34th minute when Dannie Bulman capitalised on a defensive mix-up and squared the ball to Robbie Matthews, who fired a shot into the bottom-right corner to make it 2-0.

Dragons boss Dean Saunders made two changes at the break but it had little effect as the visitors frustrated their opponents in the second period.

The hosts seemed to be lacking that all-important final ball and saw their play-off hopes fade for good as Crawley's defence held firm.

Wrexham bookings: Curtis.

Crawley bookings: Wilson, Wright, Shaw.
