John McGrath
Blue Square Premier club Burton Albion have revealed that highly-rated midfielder John McGrath has put pen-to-paper on a new deal at the Pirelli Stadium.
Manager Nigel Clough recently lost the services of experienced striker Daryl Clare and it was feared that MacGrath would follow him out the exit door with a number of interested clubs vying for his signature.
However, the 28-year-old midfielder has committed to his future with the Brewers after Clough offered him an improved deal this week.
"We're absolutely delighted we've been able to persuade John stay," Clough told the Burton Mail.
"He's a very good player who has just had a superb first season with us, not only in terms of ability, but also consistency."
Quinn added: "John always wanted to stay football-wise, but there were some financial issues we needed to resolve.
"He's getting married next month so it was only natural that he should want to consider offers he received from other clubs.
"It's also going to cost him more in travel next season because the players he used to share (costs) with have all now left the club.
"But we were able to reach a compromise that will keep him at the club and hopefully cheer up some of the doom and gloom merchants who have surfaced since we lost Daryl Clare."
