Luton Town 5-1 Southport

A second-half blitz from Luton Town saw the club claim their first win of the new Blue Square Bet Premier season as they thrashed 10-man Southport 5-1 on Saturday.

The Hatters found themselves a goal down after just eight minutes as Jonathan Brown stabbed home from close range after John Paul Kissock cut the ball back across goal following James Smith's initial pass.

Just before the break, though, the Red Imps drew themselves level as Adam Watkins made himself room to shoot on the edge of the area before nestling his shot in the bottom corner of the net.

The Seasiders got off to the worst possible start in the second-half as Steve Akrigg received his marching orders for a second yellow card for a foul on Adam Watkins.

The rest of the match belonged to Steve Tilson's men as 15 minutes after the restart Will Antwi headed home from a corner before Amari Morgan-Smith tucked his effort in at the near post.

The goals continued flooding in as Robbie Willmott was afforded too much time and space before unleashing a stunning 20-yard drive which burst the back of the net.

Danny Crow completed the astonishing eight-minute display of attacking football, heading home unmarked from Curtis Osano's cross.

The result leaves Luton 10th in the standings while Southport are wallowing in 19th spot after three matches.

Luton bookings: Keane, Beckwith.

Southport bookings: Akrigg.

Sent off: Akrigg (68).

Ref: Alun-Wyn Davies (Southampton).
