Cambridge 0-1 Forest Green Rovers

Forest Green maintained their impressive run of form with a hard fought win over Cambridge United at Abbey Stadium.

Scott Rendell thought he had won a penalty in the first minute after he was felled in the box following a well coordinated attack but the referee was dismissive of the claims.

Cambridge keeper Danny Potter was unimpressed with his defence after first David Brown and then Darren Jones had opportunities to shoot from outside the area in the space of a few minutes.

U's Midfielder Robbie Wilmott might had done better with a chance in the ninth minute but his shot was ultimately a scuffed one as he crossed wires with teammate Anthony Tonkin, who tried to occupy the same piece of field at the same time.

Rovers took the lead against the run of play in the 14th minute, when Andy Mangan collected a cross from David Brown and angled it back across Potter and into the back of the net. It was the striker's 18th goal of the season.

United rallied to see out the half strongly. A free kick almost led to an equaliser when Tonkin turned Jai Reason's well weighted cross past the keeper and just wide.

United started the second half as they had finished the first, with Scott Rendell breaking down the left hand side and finding Reason in space with a cross. But the Ipswich Town loanee was charged down before he could get off a shot.

Danny potter was called into action on 51 minutes, hurtling out of his area to intercept a dangerous aerial through ball.

United were camped in Rovers' territory for most of the second half but could not convert possession and territorial advantage into a goal. The result was to be their first home defeat since 13th September, ending a twelve game unbeaten run.
