Forest Green 3-1 Salisbury

Forest Green Rovers defeated and injury-ravaged Salisbury side 3-1 in the Blue Square Premier on Boxing Day.

Both sides are struggling at the wrong end of the table but a second successive league victory has seen Rovers pick up valuable points to keep them within touching distance of a number of teams above them.

Injuries and suspensions for the Whites meant that City boss Tommy Widdrington had to name himself among a substitutes bench of just three.

Isaiah Rankin scored his first goal since joining Forest Green with Daniel Webb scoring an own goal to double Rovers' first half lead.

Daniel Powell made it three in the second half, with Matt Tubbs, who had missed a penalty with the score still at 1-0, firing in a free-kick late on.

Rankin got himself into a good shooting position on 29 minutes from which he unleased a fantastic drive to beat James Bittner in the Salisbury goal.

Terry Burton then came to his sides' rescue when he denied Matt Tubbs from the penalty spot. Webb's own goal then made matters worse for the visitors, before Powell put the game to bed on 69 minutes.

Tubbs made some amends for his penalty miss when he scored a free kick, but with seven minutes to go, it was nothing more than a consolation.
