Rovers extend Powell loan

Forest Green Rovers have changed the loan arrangement with MK Dons for the services of Danny Powell from a short-term loan to a season-long loan.

At 18 years of age Powell is starting to develop with more and more 1st team experience; and the player jumped at the chance of continuing his stay at the New Lawn and of course the opportunity to continue his personal experience of the FA Cup coming up this week.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Ollie Thorne, despite having broken his thumb (although he is cup tied for Rovers) during the first half against Gateshead and being refused permission to come back out at half time, finished on a high at the end of the day, when he signed a contract with Rovers.

Manager David Hockaday believes Thorne whilst having much to learn, he is a player for the future and a leader.

Such players will make mistakes because of their sheer committment and effort they put in, not only in matches but also in training and accordingly fans need to remember that 19 years of age is very young to be playing as a central defender in the Blue Square Premier.

Hockaday knows that under the budget restraint he has this season he must plan carefully for any new players and now that it seems the worst of the weather is out the way he can concentrate on targets he would like to approach, whereas bringing them in and paying new players without games being played would have been unwise.
