Jared Hodgkiss

Forest Green 1-1 Cambridge

Forest Green Rovers picked up a much-needed point in their battle against relegation when they played out to a 1-1 draw with Cambridge United at the New Lawn on Saturday.

Danny Crow opened the scoring for the visitors in the first-half, but his effort was cancelled out by Jared Hodgkiss' second-half strike.

Both sides had their fair share of chances in the opening quarter, but it was the U's who struck first when Robbie Willmott sent an excellent volley into Crow in the area and he chested the ball down and volleyed the ball home after 20 minutes.

Tomi Ameobi, squandered two chances shortly thereafter to get his charges back on level terms and it was the U's who went into the break with a deserved lead.

Hodgkiss had an excellent chance just after the interval, but he fired wide having worked himself into a good position.

The home side's pressure finally paid dividends when they levelled through Jared Hodgkiss on 72 minutes after he latched onto substitute Conal Platt's low right-wing cross and fired the ball into the back of the net.

The U's came close to snatching the three points in injury-time, but Josh Coulson failed to find the target with his header despite being unmarked in the area.

Forest Green bookings: McDonald, Thorne.

Cambridge Utd bookings: McAuley.
