Nigel Clough
Nigel Clough's Burton Albion kept their promotion aspirations alive with a comfortable victory over play-off chasers Stevenage Borough on Friday night.
The first half saw the visitors pile on the pressure with a number of shots on goal, but they were unable to break down a well organised Burton defence.
The second period belonged to the Brewers and they broke the deadlock in the 57th minute when John Brayford tapped in from the right-hand side of the six-yard box.
Burton were awarded a penalty in the 75th minute when Ashley Westwood was adjudged to have fouled Daryl Clare in the box.
Daryl Clare made no mistake with the resulting spot kick to double Burton's tally and their lead was further extended five minutes later.
Clare drilled a shot into the post and John Brayford pounced on the rebound and placed his 12-yard effort in the bottom-right corner.
Burton bookings: Simpson, Webster.
Stevenage bookings: Mitchell, Westwood.
