Stevenage Borough extended their unbeaten run to 24 games after recording a comfortable win against FA Trophy Final opponents York City at KitKat Crescent on Tuesday night.
The result saw Graham Westley's side claim fifth position in the Blue Square Premier standings and also brought an end to York's seven-match unbeaten run.
York have struggled to find the net of late and it really showed as they created their fair share of chances but just couldn't put them away.
The hosts looked more likely to make something happen in the first half and almost broke the deadlock in the 25th minute.
Ben Purkiss made a surging run down the right-hand flank and sent on an inviting cross which was met by the head of striker Daniel McBreen.
However, McBreen's header from inside the six-yard box was brilliantly kept out by Stevenage goalkeeper Chris Day.
McBreen had another chance from the resulting corner but flashed his header wide at the near post.
York midfielder Simon Rusk then fired a left-footed shot wide of the post after breaking into the Stevenage box.
Boro were being forced to sit back and soak up the pressure but managed to force a corner just before the half-time interval.
Ronnie Henry's corner kick made it's way to Steve Morison in the box but the striker sent his header just inches wide.
Stevenage must have gotten a real tongue lashing from manager Graham Westley at half time because they looked a completely different outfit after the break.
York were made to rue their lack of cutting edge in front of goal as the visitors claimed the lead in the 48th minute.
Defender Scott Laird made a run down the left-hand flank and sent in a cross to the back post where Lee Boylan rose above the York defence to head home the opening goal.
Buoyed by the opening goal, Stevenage continued to push forward with purpose and doubled their advantage in the 67th minute after some poor defending by the hosts.
Henry found Morison with an inviting pass and the striker had time and space in the box to comfortably slot the ball past York keeper Michael Ingham.
Morison almost doubled his tally just a few minutes later but his powerful shot cannoned off the crossbar.
York had a chance to pull one back later on when Day drifted off of his line but Mark Robinson's weak shot was hacked off the line by defender Jon Ashton.
York bookings: Robinson.
Stevenage bookings: Bostwick, Murphy, Day.
Ref: Jermaine Simpson (Carnforth).

Certainly one of the better grounds in the League. On one side is the all seated covered Main Stand, which looks quite impressive. | ||
