Holker Street

Barrow 0-0 Stevenage

Stevenage Borough's stuttering start to the season continued on Saturday afternoon as they were held to a goalless draw by Barrow at Holker street.

Graham Westley's men looked to have enough quality to see off the challenge of the hosts but a lack of cutting edge in attack did them no favours.

The opening half-hour was a closely contested affair with both team's defences shutting out the opposition strikers.

The first real chance of the match fell to Mitchell Cole in the 37th minute but the striker's shot lacked power and accuracy.

Barrow midfielder Carlos Logan had a glorious chance to put his side ahead just before the half-time break, but he failed to hit the target despite being unmarked at the back post.

The visitors played with more purpose in the second period and created a number of good chances just after the interval.

Cole came close to breaking the deadlock on 52 minutes but his effort was saved brilliantly by Barrow goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson.

Boro midfielder Lawrie Wilson spurned another glorious opportunity on the hour mark when he dragged his shot wide with a gaping goal in front of him.

Logan had a second chance to give his side the lead in the 75th minute but his header from Paul Rutherford's cross skimmed off the top of the crossbar.

Barrow have picked up four points from their opening three games, while Stevenage have collected three points from their start to the new campaign.

Barrow bookings: Spender.

Stevenage bookings: Wilson, Henry.

Referee: S Duncan (Newcastle).

Attendance: 1,254.

Certainly one of the better grounds in the League. On one side is the all seated covered Main Stand, which looks quite impressive.
