Stevenage 3-0 Ebbsfleet United

Stevenage defeated Ebbsfleet 3-0 in the Blue Square Premier on Tuesday night to claim their first win of the new season.

United are still without their first victory, however and looked no closer to securing it against a dominant Boro side.

The home side made their mark as early as the eighth minute when Chris Beardsley beat Fleet keeper Lance Cronin for his first goal in his first start for Graham Westley's side.

Beardsley latched onto Lawrie Wilson's headed flick-on that the midfielder had played into the striker's path from a Scott Laird cross.

Despite dominating for much of the match, Stevenage struggled to make the most of their chances as Mark Roberts hit the woodwork at the end of the first half.

The visitor's best chance fell to Jamie Forshaw on the half-hour mark but he only managed to get the faintest of touches on the ball as Stefan Bailey delivered a teasing cross that Boro keeper Ashley Bayes collected easily.

Joel Byrom looked odds on to grab a second for his side after Michael Bostwick's firmly hit pass into the area fell kindly at his feet, but Byrom's shot fizzed past the post, much to the relief of Cronin.

Boro finally added to their tally in the 75th minute when Byrom made no mistake from Michael Bostwick's low drive as he touched the ball past a despairing Cronin.

Boro then put the result beyond doubt when man of the match Lawrie Wilson stole into the area before beating Cronin with a well-hit drive.

Certainly one of the better grounds in the League. On one side is the all seated covered Main Stand, which looks quite impressive.
