Oxford Utd 2-1 Stevenage

Oxford United moved to the top of the Blue Square Premier table with a 2-1 win over Blue Square Premier rivals Stevenage Borough on Saturday.

Goals from Alfie Potter and Adam Murray was enough to secure the three points for Chris Wilder's charges despite an injury-time consolation goal by Boro's Yemi Odubade.

Stevenage took a physical approach to the encounter from the outset and this was clearly illustrated as early as the eighth minute when the Yellows' Rhys Day was forced to leave the field after a foul on him.

However, Oxford were up for the challenge and they responded in the best possible way when they took the lead in the 21st-minute through a Potter volley after hitman James Constable had flicked the ball on to him following a cross by Dannie Bulman from the left.

Wilder's men almost doubled their lead just before the interval when Constable charged down a clearance and the ball fell to Potter, but this time his effort went woefully wide.

Mitchell Cole came close to putting his side back on level terms shortly after the break after finding some space behind the U's defence, however, he fired over the crossbar.

Boro were made to pay for their missed chances when Adam Murray wrapped up the points for the home side when he fired home from inside the area to make it 2-0.

Graham Westley's men did manage to pull back a late goal through former Oxford hitman Yemi Odubade in injury-time, but it proved to be too little too late.

Oxford Utd bookings: Constable.

Stevenage bookings: Ashton, Beardsley, Murphy, Roberts, Cole.

Certainly one of the better grounds in the League. On one side is the all seated covered Main Stand, which looks quite impressive.
