Stevenage 0-0 AFC Wimbledon

Stevenage Borough missed out on the chance to catch league leaders Oxford after being held to goalless draw by AFC Wimbledon at Broadhall Way on Monday afternoon.

The Dons made their intentions known early on as they pushed forward in search of an early goal but an acrobatic save from Boro goalkeeper Chris Day denied striker Jon Main in the 11th minute.

Stevenage striker Chris Beardsley tested Wimbledon goalkeeper Seb Brown with a shot from a tight angle in the 16th minute and should have opened his account in the 25th minute but he failed to hit the target from inside the six yard area.

The visitors gave Stevenage a real scare in the 35th minute when Ross Montague's shot was saved by Day and headed against the crossbar after defender Jon Ashton had cleared the ball off the line.

The Wombles had a glorious opportunity to break the deadlock in the 70th minute with Ricky Wellard bearing down on goal.

However, Wellard saw his goalbound effort turned around the post by outstretched hand of Day.

Stevenage brought on Lee Boylan for Chris Beardsley and striker had an instant impact as his goalbound header was hacked off the line by Elliott Godfrey in the 78th minute.

Wellard came agonisingly close again in the 80th minute but his 20-yard strike flew inches wide of the left-hand post.

Stevenage bookings: Byrom, Odubade.

AFC Wimbledon bookings: Lorraine, Duncan.

Ref: J Hopkins.

Att: 3033.

Certainly one of the better grounds in the League. On one side is the all seated covered Main Stand, which looks quite impressive.
