Altrincham left it until the end to see off the challenge of nine-man Forest Green Rovers at Moss Lane on Saturday afternoon.
The first-half will be remembered for all the wrong reasons by the visitors as their goalkeeper Terry Burton was dismissed shortly before half-time for a professional foul on Colin Little.
And the second-half was no different as Rovers saw their chances of claiming anything from the match disappear when John Hardiker was shown his second yellow card of the game for a poor challenge on Little.
Despite the two-man difference the Robins had, they could not find a breakthrough until right at the end.
Richard Battersby was the man who sealed the three-points for the home side when he scored a fine solo effort with three minutes left on the clock.
And the hosts nearly doubled their lead in injury-time, but Liam King's drilled effort was comfortably saved by replacement goalkeeper Ryan Robinson.
