Sills: Bagged a brace
Paul Buckle's Torquay United broke into the play-off zone on Saturday afternoon with an assured performance against Altrincham at Field Mill.
The Gulls opened their account after 19 minutes when Tim Sills met Wayne Carlisle's inswinging corner in the penalty area and sent his header into the back of the net.
The Robins held the home side at bay for the remainder of the first half but were unable to fashion an equaliser.
Torquay were awarded a penalty in the 53rd minute when Stuart Coburn was adjudged to have fouled Elliot Benyon in the box.
Sills stepped up to take the resulting spot kick and made no mistake with his right-footed effort to double his and Torquay's tally.
The hosts went further ahead in the 76th minute when Elliot Benyon latched onto Nicky Wroe's inviting pass and fired a shot into the back of the net from close range.
Altrincham's Matthew Doughty scored a spectacular goal from outside the box in the 86th minute but it was too little, too late as the Gulls cruised to victory.
Torquay bookings: None.
Altrincham bookings: Coburn 54.
