Lewes 2-0 Altrincham

Lewes managed to avoid the record for the most consecutive losses in English professional football when they beat Altrincham 2-0 at the Dripping Pan.

The goals, courtesy of Dave Wheeler and Joe Keehan, were the Rooks' first league goals at home since November as they put in an impressive team display.

It was the Robins who had the first chance of the game when Michael Welch latched on to a corner by Shaun Densmore in the fourth minute, but his effort was kept out by Rooks keeper Riki Banks, who had an excellent evening between the sticks.

Two minutes later it was the stopper, who was called into action again when he made a fine save from a superb shot by Joe O'Neill.

Altrincham dominated the opening period, but it was the home side who scored the opener in the 25th minute when Luke Rooney picked out David Wheeler, who fired home to give his side the lead.

The visitors came close to levelling things up five minutes later through a Colin Little shot, but once again they were denied by a fine save from Banks.

The Robins' failure to find the back of the net came back to bite them just before the break when home side were sent into a frenzy after Joe Keehan headed the ball home from a Michael Standing corner.

Rooney almost gave his side a three goal cushion in the second-half when his strike from 25 yards out sailed just wide.

Banks again came to the Lewes' rescue when he kept out a goal-bound shot from Colin Little in the 70th minute.

A miserable night for the visitors was summed up when they had Anthony Danylyk sent off in injury time as Lewes held on for a long awaited victory.

Lewes bookings: Rooney, Cullip, Wilkinson.

Altrincham bookings: Densmore, Danylyk.

Sent Off: Danylyk.
