Altrincham 2-2 Kidderminster

Kidderminster Harriers suffered a dent to their play-off challenge after Altrincham netted an injury-time goal to snatch a 2-2 draw at Moss Lane.

Mark Yates' side started the stronger of the two teams and they were unfortunate not to open the scoring in the sixth minute when Stefan Moore had his header cleared off the line by Matt Doughty.

But despite the visitors dominating the opening period it was the home side who took the lead in the 37th minute when Harriers defender Luke Jones failed to clear Shaun Densmore's cross from the right and Michael Welch was gifted a free header to make it 1-0.

Yates would have had some harsh words for his troops at half-time and it seemed to have the desired effect when just two minutes after the re-start Martin Brittain fired a free-kick into the back of the net after Stuart Coburn brought down Chris McPhee just outside the area.

The visitors continued to dominate and they extended their lead in the 72nd minute when Matthew Barnes-Homer headed the ball home after he got onto the end of a cross from Brittain.

However, the Robins refused to lie down and Graham Heathcote played four strikers in the last 10 minutes as he went in search of something from the game.

Heathcote was rewarded for his bold move in injury-time when the late pressure finally told off and Michael Carr brought down Rod Thornley in the box and Altrincham were awarded a penalty.

Colin Little stepped up to take the spot-kick and he sent the keeper the wrong way to send the home fans into raptures as the Robins grabbed a point and with it probably secured their place in the Blue Square Premier next season.

Harriers are now just one point ahead of sixth-placed Sevenage.

Altrincham:bookings: Wilkinson, Coburn, Johnson, Young, Lawton.

Kidderminster bookings: Bartlett, Jones.
