Graham Heathcote
Graham Heathcote's Altrincham inched closer towards the play-off places with a fairly comfortable victory over mid-table Tamworth at the Lamb Ground on Tuesday night.
The first half was a closely contested affair with both sides managing to create a fair number of chances.
However, a lack of cutting edge coupled with difficult weather conditions, meant the half ended goalless.
Altrincham had struggled to get to grips with the wind being at their backs in the opening 45 minutes and looked more dangerous having switched sides after the interval.
The visitors finally got the breakthrough they were looking for in the 71st minute when Matthew Doughty found the top-left corner with a free kick from just outside the area.
The result was put beyond doubt in the 88th minute when John McAliskey netted from close range to make it 2-0.
Tamworth's Neil MacKenzie came agonisingly close to pulling one back for the hosts but his 30-yard effort struck the crossbar.
Tamworth bookings: Tait, Blackwood, Pritchard.
Altrincham bookings: Little, Lawton, Doughty, Williams.
Ref: R Joyce (Yorkshire).
Att: 630.
