Graham Heathcote's Altrincham saw their play-off aspirations take a knock on Tuesday evening as they were edged out by Barrow at Moss Lane.
The visitors started brightly bur efforts from Paul Rutherford and Craig Nelthorpe failed to test Alty keeper Stuart Coburn.
The Robins came close to breaking the deadlock in the 22nd minute but Colin Little's looping long-range effort dropped just over the crossbar.
The home side created a number of chances after the half-time break but a lack of cutting edge in front of goal meant to scoreline remained unchanged.
However, they lost Chris Denham to injury in the 56th minute and minutes later team-mate Tom Kearney was also withdrawn due to an injury.
Barrow came close when Mark Boyd forced a finger tip save from Coburn with his 25-yard free-kick in the 65th minute.
And they finally got the breakthrough they were looking for in the 85th minute when loanee Craig Nelthorpe cut in from the right wing before firing a powerful effort into the bottom left corner from just outside the box.
Altrincham bookings: None.
Barrow bookings: Sheridan.
