Brown left frustrated
Altrincham put in a stubborn defensive effort to hold on for a valuable away point in a 1-1 draw against play-off hopefuls AFC Wimbledon.
After a rather dull first half Altrincham took the lead six minutes into the second period. Derek Duncan carelessly brought down Chris Denham allowing Blue Square Premier player of the month Chris Senior to convert from the spot.
The Robins continued to defend resolutely with numbers behind the ball but were finally broken down after 76 minutes when Ben Judge hit the equaliser.
Dons manager Terry Brown was left frustrated by The Robins' approach. "We know what Altrincham are all about" he told the Croydon Guardian. "I've managed against Graham Heathcote's side for over ten years!"
"They came with a game plan with Senior on his own up top and everyone else behind the ball. They're extremely tough to break down and make it impossible to create space in the midfield," he added.
"I haven't seen the stats but I guess they had one or two shots on target at best.
"I couldn't see them scoring in a million years but we gave them an awful penalty."
The Robins, however, were happy with their point and assistant coach Ken McKenna made no apologies for their style of play.
"In football you work with what you are given. You can't come here and chuck man after man forward.
"Wimbledon are a very good side and we came to keep it tight and try to nick one if we could. To have any chance of a result we had to play a certain way I'm afraid. There are no apologies from us!"
