Moss Lane

Altrincham 0-4 Mansfield Town

Mansfield Town claimed top spot in the Blue Square Bet Premier standings with a comfortable 4-0 win over Graham Heathcote's Altrincham at Moss Lane.

The Stags started brightly and claimed the lead in the 11th minute when Paul Connor rose well to meet an Adam Smith cross with a powerful header which went in off the inside of the post.

Altrincham were struggling to contain Mansfield and the visitors didn't take long to double their advantage thanks to a brilliant bit of individual skill from Smith.

Smith cut in from the left on 18 minutes and unleashed a powerful drive which evaded the reach of goalkeeper Stuart Coburn and flew into the bottom-left corner.

The Robins had a great chance to pull one back three minutes later but Robbie Williams' looping header was cleared off the line by last man Gary Mills.

Heathcote's side battled on valiantly as they looked to reduce the deficit but the result was put beyond their reach in the 81st minute when Keigan Parker tapped home a Luke Medley cross from close range.

And Parker was on hand again deep into injury time to net from the penalty spot after being hauled down in the area by Anthony Danylyk.

Altrincham bookings: Crowell, Danylyk.

Mansfield bookings: Foster.

Ref: Peter Wright (Merseyside).
