Vieira: Bagged a brace

Northwich 0-2 Cambridge Utd

Cambridge United clinched second place on the Blue Square Premier table on Saturday with a comfortable win against Northwich Victoria.

Jimmy Quinn's side claimed the lead after 22 minutes when Magno Vieira collected a Daniel Gleeson assist pass in a dangerous area and went on to fire a 12-yard shot into the bottom-left corner.

The visitors stuck to their gameplan with some disciplined play and finally got their second when Vieira popped up again to complete his brace with an effort from the left-hand side of the penalty area.

The U's almost nicked a third in injury time but Courtney Pitt's long-range drive flew over the bar.

Northwich bookings: Carr 53.

Cambridge bookings: None.
