Stafford 1-2 Aldershot

A battling display from Steve Bull's Stafford Rangers was not enough to stop league leaders Aldershot from collecting all three points on Saturday.

The visitors drew first blood in the 41st minute when Rob Elvins curled his 18-yard effort into the top-right corner.

Stafford rallied in the second period and new signing Nick Wellecomm quickly endeared himself to the home supporters by heading in a 61st minute equaliser.

However, they the home side were caught napping just three minutes later as Aldershot's Scott Donnelly whipped in an inviting cross and John Grant finished at the left-hand side of six-yard box with a well-placed header.

The Shots now hold a 17 point lead at the top of the Blue Square Premier table and it's hard to see them slipping up at this stage of the season.

Stafford bookings: Loukes 30.

Aldershot bookings: Elvins 82.

Ref: M Matadar.

Att: 981.
