Mackin keen to repay Dragons

Levi Mackin is eager to prove his consistency in form to Wrexham manager Brian Little following his gritty performances on-loan at Droyslden last season.

The 22-year-old earned glowing praise from Little for his gutsy displays in the Bloods' relegation scrap, but knows he faces stiff competition from new signings Tom Kearney and Kyle Critchell to earn a place in the Dragons midfield.

But Mackin feels if he can produce the same form he enjoyed towards the end of last term, he can tie down a spot in the Wrexham first team.

He told the Daily Post: "It's a very important time for me. Everyone is keen to impress from the off and if I can carry on now in the way that I finished last season, I'll be pleased.

"I was reasonably happy with the way things went for me at the back end of last season and it was nice to hear the gaffer saying good things about my performances, but that's behind me now.

"My main object is to justify the faith he showed in me and play in as many games as possible next season."

And Mackin is grateful for the experience he was able to attain in the Blue Square North with Droylsden.

"It was definitely worthwhile and great experience for me.

"I played a large number of games in a relatively short period of time and in that sort of situation certain aspects of the game become second nature and you don't have to think about them too much.

"And of course I played against many of the sides that Wrexham will be facing next season, so I have a pretty good idea of what to expect and how to cope with it.

"It's fair to say we can expect a few tough games, but I don't think there is anything to fear, particularly, as long as we are competitive which I'm sure will be the case.

"Of the sides that weren't promoted, Burton Albion and Torquay United will probably be challenging again but I'd like to think we can emulate Aldershot, who were far and away the best team as was proved by their runaway success.

"Their movement and pace was what marked them out from the others and from what I've seen of the new lads the gaffer has brought in, pace shouldn't be a problem for us.

"We haven't done much ball work yet since returning to pre-season, but if we can get that right I will be very optimistic about our chances.

"The new faces here have freshened up everything and everyone and already there are signs that a good spirit is developing in the squad.

"Hopefully that will grow stronger as we get closer to the new season and that we can make the sort of start that boosts confidence and team spirit."
