Oxford unveil new signing Fowler

Blue Square Premier leaders Oxford United have officially unveiled midfielder Lee Fowler as their new signing ahead of the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old former Kettering player says he turned down an offer to play in the Football League in order to link up with Manager Chris Wilder at the Kassam Stadium.

Fowler told the club's official website: "There was a league club who were showing a very strong interest and I could have gone there in January, but as soon as Chris [Wilder] gave me a call it changed everything.

"I know what you need in this division to be a winner, and I think I've found a club that's matching my ambitions, the manager's ambitions and the chairman's ambitions all at the same time."

Fowler is now waiting on the confirmation of his registration going through ahead of Oxford's clash with Rushden & Diamonds on New Year's day.

He added: "If the FA clear my registration then I'll want to be involved.

"I haven't missed too many games this season and I want to carry that on and get back playing."
