Barrow 0-1 Cambridge United

Cambridge United took all three points from their relegation battle against 10-man Barrow with a 1-0 win at Holker Street.

The U's secured their first victory in over three months as Barrow dropped into the bottom four. Martin Ling's side put in another decent display after their battling draw with Oxford in midweek.

It was a barren first half with neither team managing a shot on target. Early in the second period the home side appeared to be gaining the ascendancy, creating a number of chances. The Bluebirds however were unable to capitalise and on 73 minutes Cambridge made them pay.

Danny Crow fed in winger Scott Nielsen who from 10-yards out slid the ball past Tim Deasy in the Barrow goal. Nielsen was making his debut after having joined this week on-loan from Bradford City.

In response to the goal the Bluebirds brought on new signing Lee McEvilly. The striker saw a good opportunity go a-begging in the 82nd minute as he pulled his shot wide. And it got worse for the home side on 89-minutes as winger Carlos Logan was sent-off after recieving a second yellow card.

Barrow bookings: Logan.
